Serasi SS21

Serasi is inspired by Tri Hita Karana: a belief about life derived from Balinese Hinduism. It examines the three causes of wellbeing: 1) harmony amongst people, 2) harmony with nature, 3) harmony with God.

The show features a balance of solid prints and original bateeq motifs, Anglocita and Tarajakti. Whilst appealing to modern tastes, they incorporate batik patterns such as kawung and gringsing, to reflect the values of strength and hope. Anglocita and Tarajakti also include elements like fern leaves to remind us that nature is part of our everyday lives, and there is a need to coexist harmoniously.

HARMONY WITH PEOPLE AND NATURE: SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

We continue our collaboration with a home industry in Klaten, Central Java. The elderly craftsmen and women, who receive better wages through our projects, of this SME hand-weave the lurik fabrics with yarn made from recycled cotton waste. Accessories – bags, belts, necklaces, hats – were created by bateeq home, our own line of homeware. The pieces use traditional cotton wick straps, and are also created from leftover factory waste. An overall soft color palette is enhanced with touches of vibrant or bold tones. To mirror Balinese style, a mix of ready-to-wear wrapped and loose pieces, and stylistic layering can be seen across.

Whilst reflecting Bali’s lifestyle through the clothes, this season’s underlying message is in the relevance of Tri Hita Karana: the preservation of cultural diversity and environment amidst globalisation and homogenisation.

WE ARE THERE EVERY STEP OF THE WAY TO ENSURE NOT ONLY QUALITY, BUT A TRUE HONORING OF THE BALINESE PHILOSOPHY.
