Batik is a creative medium that has been practised for centuries, originating from Central Java, Indonesia. This ancient art form involves decorating cotton cloth with detailed motifs by using wax and coloured dyes; usually by hand. The complex dyeing process creates beautiful designs that are unique from region to region, often containing symbolism reflecting the age-old philosophies of the many Kingdoms that once dominated the archipelago. It is through our understanding of this preserved tradition, that we were influenced to develop fashion collections incorporating the cultural elements of Indonesian batik with modern style.
